As a child, I was part of an independent, non-denominational, fundamentalist congregation that only read from the King James Version of the Bible. To this day, they still maintain that stance, refusing to consider any other translations that use contemporary language, or that have fewer errors in translation.
We occasionally encountered chapters that we called “the begats.” You’ll find them in Genesis and in some of the historical books of Hebrew Scripture. Then, in Matthew and Luke we find genealogies of Jesus, with Luke taking it all the way to Adam, whom he calls “son of God.” By the way, Matthew and Luke don’t agree on the ancestry of Jesus. The Mormons still had a few years to work on their websites to straighten all that out.
